This Qing dynasty antique Chinese clothes rail is from Shanxi province and is an excellent example of Qing dynasty domestic Chinese furniture. It is simple in design and of good proportions with carved dragons framing the top rail. As is often found with traditional Qing Chinese furniture it is coated with burgundy lacquer (also known as 'dragons blood' lacquer) which has worn away in places. It is constructred from Chinese northern elm wood (yumu).
A similar example can be found on page 258 of Classic Chinese Furniture Of The Qing Dynasty by Tian Jiaqing.
